The Passable Artist Residency Program

At Passable, we believe in fostering a vibrant and inclusive creative ecosystem where the boundaries between art, technology, and design fluidly converge. Our Artist Residency Program is a transformative, year-long initiative dedicated to supporting and empowering artists who are pushing the frontiers of interdisciplinary practice.

Our program offers selected artists a comprehensive suite of resources, including a complimentary Passable membership, a dedicated project stipend, unparalleled access to our collaborative workspace and cutting-edge tools, and the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves within our community. Residents are encouraged to develop ambitious new work, engage in skill-sharing through workshops and talks, and showcase their innovative projects through solo and group exhibitions, enriching both their individual artistic journey and the collective spirit of Passable.

Meet Our Inaugural Artists in Residence: 2025-2026

We are proud to introduce the two exceptional artists who have been awarded the Passable Artist Residency for the 2025-2026 cycle. Through a highly competitive selection process, Ren Han and Cam Smith stood out for their compelling visions, innovative practices, and profound commitment to exploring the exciting intersections of art, technology, and design. We eagerly anticipate the groundbreaking work and community engagement they will bring to Passable.

Ren Han (she/they)

Ren Han’s artistic path is a fusion of diverse disciplines. Her foundational relationship with art began through performance and music, evolving significantly through their academic pursuits in both art and psychology. This rich background intertwines with her expertise in data science and coding. Ren possesses a keen awareness of the deep intersectionalities within art, design, and technology, and their practice is deeply informed by how these fields co-evolve.

Cam Smith (he/him)

Cam Smith’s artistic practice is shaped by his experience with Artificial Intelligence in Silicon Valley, offering a critical lens on how corporations and governments leverage data. Through his interactive installations, which ingeniously repurpose surveillance cameras, computer monitors, projectors, and mathematical principles, Cam invites viewers into a dialogue about the technologies that permeate our lives.

What to Expect from Our Residents

Throughout their year at Passable, Ren and Cam will be active and integral members of our creative ecosystem. The public can look forward to a series of engaging opportunities to interact with their work and learn from their expertise:

  • Public Workshops: Ren and Cam will host dynamic workshops, offering insights into their unique processes and sharing valuable skills at the intersection of art, technology, and design. Expect sessions that demystify complex concepts, encourage hands-on creation, and foster critical thinking.
  • Artist Talks: Gain deeper insight into their artistic philosophies, inspirations, and the evolution of their projects during dedicated artist talks. These sessions will offer a chance to hear directly from Ren and Cam about their work and their experiences within the residency.
  • Exhibitions: Witness the culmination of their year-long exploration through dedicated solo exhibitions, often coinciding with the Capitol Hill Art Walk. These shows will showcase their innovative installations, sculptures, and interdisciplinary works developed within the Passable space.
  • Community Engagement: Our residents will actively participate in Passable’s vibrant community life, contributing to discussions, informal skill-sharing, and collaborative projects.

This residency promises a year of groundbreaking art and invaluable learning experiences for everyone involved.
